Most expensive Starbucks drink in the world?

You think you paid a lot for your venti mocha latte today? Wait til you see how much one computer technician shelled out for a cup.

The co-creator of the drink says, “Imagine a coffee-based health food smoothie that will put you in the hospital if you drink it all.”

Do you gripe about the high prices at Starbucks? Some people try to avoid paying a large sum of money for a drink at the popular coffee shop, but Logan Warren went a different route.

“Armed with my Starbucks Rewards card, I decided to take the opportunity to find out just how much money I could pour into a Trenta–Starbucks’ whopping 31-ounce cup,” Warren says on his blog.

The enthusiastic computer technician from Texas clearly doesn’t need an app to tell him when to take a coffee break. He and a local barista set forthto create the ultimate birthday wake-me-up, since Starbucks Rewards members get a free drink on their birthday.

The result is one part Java Chip Frappuccino, and a whole lot of caffeine (16 shots of espresso). Toppings include “a shot of soy milk, caramel flavoring, banana puree, strawberry puree, vanilla beans, Matcha powder, protein powder, and a drizzle of caramel and mocha.”

In total, the uber-drink contains about 1,400 milligrams of caffeine (far above the usual 90-150mg, according to the USDA), and tastes “tolerable.” According to the receipt, it took the barista about 20 minutes to create the brew, which costs the tremendous total of $23.60.

Warren believes it’s “the most expensive Starbucks drink in the world,” and he might be right. The previous claim, from 2011, is a highly modified venti white chocolate mocha at $20.65.
